Turning Fundraising Into A Game
The pandemic cancelled sports. As an organization that is focused on giving away tickets to sports, we had to rebuild our entire model. We had no tickets to give away. On top of that, we lost our ability to raise funds because we couldn't bring people together for our usual fundraising activities. That forced us to take a step back and reimagine how we could engage our audience and raise money from the comfort of our homes.

Get There Gaming was a happy accident. As I was looking up online fundraising ideas I came across a website called Tiltify that empowers social media users to create interactive online fundraisers for nonprofit organizations. The Tiltify platform allows users to create a personalized fundraiser with unique goals, rewards, and milestones that help you connect with your target audience and fans. The ideas started flowing and I got on a phone call with a member of the Tiltify team the next day.
Our conversation started with an introduction to Get There Foundation and our online fundriasing goals. But then my Tiltify guru told me a little bit more about his background in the nonprofit world and how that work and his passion for gaming led him to working for this company. As someone that grew up with video games, I was hooked. I wanted to know more about the world of video game streaming. I knew that this world existed but I had never met anyone that actually was a streamer. We spoke at length and I started doing some reasearch. After watching some streams, and making some Amazon purchases, I decided that this was a world that I wanted to be a part of.

In 2020, more than $83 million was raised for charity by streamers on Twitch. Twitch is the go-to for many gamers that want to start broadcasting their gameplay to the world. I created Get There Gaming to create a community of gamers that want to do some good. We are a team dedicated to fundraising and helping each other grow along the way. For me this is a great way to raise money while doing something that I love to do. It allows me to connect with my followers and supporters while creating new ones along the way. The goal, as always, is to help kids go to sporting events. Stop by a stream sometime and help us help kid Get There!
See you on Twitch,
